Location
Standard location. On the face, in the depression in the centre of the mentolabial sulcus.
How to find it. Find the middle of the groove between the lower lip and the chin, and press into the small hollow there. It is on the midline.
The mentolabial sulcus is the groove itself, not the lip and not the chin below it.

- Benefits the mouth and gums
- Relaxes the chin and the muscles around the lower lip
Practitioner note
Safety
Safety and when to get help
- Light pressure only: the skin in the groove is thin and splits easily.
- Do not press on broken, split or infected skin, or on a cold sore.
- A sudden change in the lower face, drooling or facial weakness needs a doctor urgently and is not treated with acupressure.
- Needling this point is a practitioner procedure and is not described on this page.

Common questions
Where is Chengjiang?
On the midline, in the hollow of the groove between the lower lip and the chin.
Why is the pressure light?
The skin in the groove is thin and splits easily, so a light upward pressure is enough.
Is it linked to Shuigou?
Yes, as a nearby point. Shuigou sits above it on the philtrum and is kept out of all routines.
How it is understood
Chengjiang sits on the midline in the mentolabial groove, where the lower lip meets the chin. The tradition uses it for the mouth, the gums and the lower face, and in a facial routine it closes the lower-face work after the jaw points. The skin there is thin, so the pressure is light. It also has a nearby point relationship with Shuigou above it, which is linked from here but kept out of every routine.
